spectacular Swiss Air Force show features live firing

Watch the Swiss Air Force close-up as it conducts a fantastic live fire exercise in the mountains above the ski town of Axalp. The show is known as the Fliegerschiessen Axalplp, and the public is invited to watch. However, getting there is not easy even if you live in Switzerland.  It requires  a long drive, then a bus ride, followed by a chairlift ride, and finally a steep hike up to a 1,000-foot mountain top. It might be better to just click the play arrow and enjoy this spectacular air show on your computer.

a fire-fighting DC-10 Air Tanker jet makes several amazing passes

Turn up the volume and watch and listen as this DC-10 Air Tanker jet makes several amazing passes.  A converted airliner, it has been fighting fires since 2006 and is shown here making Phoschek fire retardant drops on the Powerhouse brush fire in California on June 2, 2013.  It can carry up to 12,000 gallons of water or fire retardant in a belly-mounted tank.  Two air tankers are currently available to fight fires--this one, known as Tanker 911, and another one known as Tanker 910.

plane lands on L.A. freeway

Full disclosure:  This is not real.  It is a little movie.  Looks to me like it might be a student film.  Enjoy.
P.S. In case your're not familiar with Los Angeles, this refers to the infamous 405 freeway there, which runs right by the LAX airport.

no frills airplane

After watching this hilarious skit featuring Harvey Korman, Tim Conway, and Carol Burnett, it does seem worth the $40 cost to bump up to First Class. Oh, if only planes were actually that sparsely populated!  (Unfortunately, this video is no longer available, so I have substituted in naother funny video on the subject.)

I actually once had the opportunity to fly in a Blue Angels plane during practice in San Francisco. But I was young and foolish and scared and so declined. This video helps make up for that.
